Bush Takes Action Against Global Warming

It took a weird climate change to affect Washington for the US President Mr. George W. Bush to think that it’s about time to take action. For years, the president and his supporters argued that not enough was known about global warming to do anything about it. But during last week’s State of the Union address Bush finally referred to global warming as an established fact.
“These technologies will help us be better stewards of the environment, and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change,” Bush said in proposing a series of measures to reduce gasoline consumption by 20 percent in 10 years.
I personally find it kind of odd for the president of one of the world’s greatest producer of greenhouse gas to take action only now. They do admit that their country is polluted and yet they used to say that they don’t have enough knowledge about global warming in order for them to prevent it. Sure, there are some nitty-gritty details that the scientists don’t yet understand about global warming but I think the basics are enough, less pollutants in the atmosphere = better world. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Even my 5-year old daughter would agree to that.
Anyway, I’m glad that they’re finally taking action. Being a global leader, I’m pretty sure that other countries such as the Philippines (where I live) would follow their lead (I hope).
