It is pretty amazing to realize that a lot of modern technology were the brainchild of early science fiction writers. In fact, sci-fi stories are a good source of ideas for modern day inventors.
Below is a list of Science fiction technologies from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings. Some of them have already been achieved by us humans while others are well on the way.
Moon Walk (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – Very early realistic depiction of walking on the moon in low gravity.
Gravity Assist (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – Using the gravity and orbital speed of a celestial body to change speed and course of a spacecraft.
Eavesdropping Ray (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – A device that allows others to hear from outside ordinary locked rooms.
Paralyzing Ray (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – Stops body motions.
Pencil Heat Ray (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – An offensive, man-portable heat ray.
Lunar Mining (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – Very early (first?) reference to mining operations on the moon.
Moon Dome (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – A permanent domed structure for living on the Moon.
Invisible Cloak (from Brigands of the Moon by Ray Cummings) – A cloak that renders the wearer invisible.
Now, where did my robotic secretary go this time…?
